The First Step In Planning Any Successful Live Event Is Establishing Your Mission Statement.

THE MISSION STATEMENT IS THE LIFE FORCE OF YOUR EVENT.  Without it, the event will not survive. It will be the driving, motivating force coursing through the veins of your event from start to finish. It is your WHY factor. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS EVENT in the first place?

It is absolutely imperative that you define your why, your mission, before you start anything else so that you can build a strong foundation to build your event. Want to know more about WHY this is important? Check out my post Insider Secrets: How to Plan a Successful Live Event First Steps.

The mission statement will serve as a guide throughout your entire planning process, so make sure to define it early, and define it well.

What Is an Event Mission Statement?

A mission statement is your WHY factor.  Why are you creating this event? What is the purpose?  What is the message that you want to deliver to your audience?  If we're looking for the formal definition, a mission statement is a summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual.

So - what is it that you are trying to accomplish with this event?  What are your values and goals? And who is the event for? For example, perhaps you are trying to create an event for people to connect.  Maybe you are providing an education platform. Or what if you are hoping to inspire and empower others? It could be any and all of those reasons!  The most important thing is to reflect on what is motivating you to create this event and what you want to accomplish in the process.

How To Choose and Create Your Mission Statement

Choosing a mission statement isn't always an easy task.  You have to ask yourself a lot of questions to get to the heart of what is motivating you to create the event.  But once you have defined what your mission is, it makes the planning process that much easier.

The mission statement creates a backbone to support the structure of your event.  Remember to keep your mission statement clear and concise. The clearer, the better.

If you are clear about what your event is all about and what it will deliver, then those attending your event will also have a clear idea of what they will receive when they attend your event.

You don't want your attendees leaving the event not knowing what the purpose was OR confused because they thought it was going to be all about one subject but what they actually experienced was something completely different.

Keep your mission statement concise.  You don't want to overload your attendees with many different messages.  If you keep the mission compact, it is easier to explain in messaging, whether you are creating a website landing page, a flyer, or just telling someone about it in person.  Ambiguity or generating an onslaught of purposes will only confuse your audience and prevent them from getting the most out of their experience.

How to Make It The Best Mission Statement Ever

Lastly, make your mission statement rock solid - meaning - there is no wavering from it. The idea is that the mission statement is something YOU believe in, can repeat off the top of your head all day long, and isn’t any different from the day you create it to the day you execute it.

The reason why you are creating the event should be one of resonance and impact.  There is a reason why you are putting all this time and energy into creating this event, and it is because you believe in its purpose.

Choose a mission statement that embodies those qualities and you will be on your way to establishing a highly successful event that provides value to the lives of all those who attend!
